Meaghan McLeod

Speech-Language Pathologist in Private Practice

I am a registered speech-language pathologist with the College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of B.C. (CSHHPBC). I also maintain membership with Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) and Speech and Hearing B.C.

I am a registered service provider on the Registry of Autism Service Providers (RASP).

I am passionate about helping children and their caregivers connect to one another and their community through better communication.

My training includes the following:

  • PROMPT (Prompts for the Restructuring of Oral Motor Phonetic Targets) at the "Bridging" level
  • Certified in The Lidcombe Program: Evidence-Based Behavioral Intervention for Stuttering in Young Children
  • Current certification in The Hanen Programs® It Takes Two to Talk® and Learning Language and Loving It

I have a strong interest in, and personal and professional experience working with individuals needing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.

I have extensive experience working with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and have taken workshops in and/or worked with families who were using the following frameworks for therapy: SCERTS, DIR Floortime®, Verbal Behavior, Social Thinking, Reference and Regulate, Relationship Development Intervention and the Early Start Denver Model. I have borrowed principles of intervention from all of these approaches depending on the child and the family, but my overall approach for children with autism spectrum disorder is naturalistic and developmental and I am a firm believer in neurodiversity-affirming practice.

I strongly believe in the parents' right to be fully informed about, and involved with, intervention to the level that they currently have capacity. There is evidence that parent involvement improves outcomes of intervention and this is a premise I base my work upon.

My daughter (that's us above) crawled at one year of age, walked at two years of age, signed her first words at age three and started using spoken words regularly at age four. She continues to do most things in her own way and in her own time, and she is my greatest teacher.

I entered private practice to have the flexibility to be fully involved in my daughter's school and home life.  As such, I plan to keep my practice small and focused. I can promise you that no amount of time working with your child and your family will be wasted. With a small caseload, I will be able to give each family the dedicated time and space necessary to provide effective and meaningful service.

Self-care is a vital part of my personal, parental and professional endeavours and I partake in walking, yoga, dance, meditation and mindfulness practice on a regular basis.

ABOUT ME

KIND WORDS

"I would like to thank you, Meaghan, for all your support in the time you worked with myself and  Jaxson. I appreciate you taking the time to accommodate him with visiting him at daycare and of course at our home. Jaxson was extremely lucky to have you on his 'team'.
Thank you so so very much for your patience and support!"
